Israel Philharmonic Orchestra


The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra was established in 1936 under the role of British Mandate in Palestine.

The conductor of the opening concert was Arturo Toscanini – who left his permanent conducting role for a few weeks in order to support the newly established Philharmonic Orchestra and defined it as his "contribution to humanity".

The musical director of the orchestra for the last 40 years is the distinguished Maestro Zubin Mehta.

The orchestra is currently celebrating its 8th decade and employs 70 musicians. Over the years, many worldwide acclaimed conductors played with the Philharmonic Orchestra.

As of the 70's, the orchestra established itself as an exemplary institute of music and culture which motto is exceptional talent.

At the same time the orchestra started to take part in the leading music festivals of Europe and gained major success at its tours around the world, from the US to Japan, while cooperating with a variety of major recording establishments.
