Sunlight is the best disinfectant
In November 2021, it was decided in the IGY to establish an independent committee, headed by retired judge Nava Ben-Or, to investigate cases of sexual harassment in the organization. The committee decided to expand the mandate given to it and examine the sexual harassments in the LGBTQ community. Over the past year, its members, all volunteers, interviewed dozens of members of the community, in order to understand the norms and inappropriate behaviors, and bring their testimonies and point of view to the general public.
In a first-of-its-kind, in-depth and comprehensive report, the members of the committee point out the risk factors for sexual abuse in the LGBTQ population, how the community and community organizations deal with sexual abuse when revealed, what steps the LGBTQ community and its organizations in particular must take in order to prevent sexual abuse, encourage their disclosure, and treat them after they have been exposed.
